Visiting Tokyo in January 2026

Visiting Tokyo in January 2026

We visited Tokyo with Noora in January of this year. It was the first visit to Japan for both of us and while I had asked around from friends who had visited Japan earlier, we did not have any big plans. The goal was to simply walk around and soak in Tokyo.

We stayed in Shibuya and travelled the city with our Suica cards and local metro. Traveling in Tokyo was an enjoyment and mostly because of great signage and also the culture of respect toward others in public places.

Belo you will find photos from some of the places we visited.

Yoyogi Park and Meiji Jingu

We walked to Yoyogi Park and Meiji Jingu from our hotel. Yoyogi Park was partially under construction during the quieter winter months.

Meiji Jingu was relatively busy as lots of locals and tourists visited the temple to see sights or pay their respects.

Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden

The Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden was an amazing place to visit in January. It was quiet and while not in bloom, it offered a different kind of beauty. The air was crisp and dry. The greenhouse offered a warm and moist welcome to visitors and made it pretty much impossible for me to take any photos due to fogging.

Sensō-ji

Sensō-ji was another buddhist temple we visited. It was in the city, closer to Akihabara that we also wanted to visit for the experience. What can you say, beautiful sights all around.

Random mobile shots

I will leave you with random mobile shots I took in the city.

Tokyo was amazing and definitely a place we want to visit again in the future. Next we are inclined to visit the country side and perhaps also rent a car to see the sights properly.
